Reunions Pro-Life, Pro-Family Reception

Join us tomorrow for this year’s Pro-Life, Pro-Family Reunion Reception.
Professor Robert P. George will offer a few words about the role of the
pro-life and pro-family message at Princeton and student leaders of
Princeton Pro-Life and the Anscombe Society will be present to update
alumni, students, and friends about their activities this past year and
plans for next semester. Come when you can and leave when you wish!
Families are, of course, welcome.

The event will be held tomorrow (Friday June 1) from 4:30-6pm in the 1915 room of Butler. The facebook event can be found here.

Wrapping Up

Thanks to everyone who has helped out this past year and semester. Since January we’ve postered for Valentine’s Day, hosted
study breaks and two sessions of “Ask an Anscomber Anything”, and
enjoyed two Anscombe seminar series, with Dr. Matthew O’Brien and with
Professor Christopher Tollefsen. Thanks to GE, Monday Morning Links is
now back. (One of our next projects will be improving the blog in
earnest – if you’re interested in writing please email me: apollnow@princeton.edu).
We will not be holding regular club meetings for the
rest of the semester–the officers will meet to plan for next
year, and other than that we will meet as a club only if something comes
up. So there will be no meeting on Friday; however, two upcoming events which may be of interest:
TONIGHT (May 2): “Demographic Winter,” a film screening hosted by Princeton Pro-Life in the Frist West TV Lounge at 9pm.
June
1, 4:30pm – Pro-Life, Pro-Family Reception. Featuring free food and
sympathetic alumni, professors, students, and community members, this
event will be on the Friday of reunions in Butler 1915 room.
I hope you all finish up your semester victoriously. It has been a pleasure working with you this year.

Pre-Frosh Debrief

After a couple of busy weeks, we have finished welcoming the pre-frosh. We met a number of fresh faces at both of the activities fairs, and hosted two delicious open houses (with Bent Spoon cupcakes). In the Prince: gender-neutral housing, condoms & normative sex talk

Alas, in the busyness of school we’ve rather neglected the blog. A few articles of note:

Today in the Daily Princetonian there was a charming article about all the places on campus to find condoms. Barely worthy of comment.

Yesterday their Editorial Board also ran an editorial on expanding gender neutral housing. A reply is in the works.

Last week I also published an op-ed arguing that it’s proper to discuss sex normatively in the public sphere.

The utilitarian case against being (or being friends with) a utilitarian

Since I’m not a utilitarian, this doesn’t do much to undermine utilitarianism for me. Still, there is something fitting about it. From the article:

“Dr Bartels and Dr Pizarro… found a strong
link between utilitarian answers to moral dilemmas (push the fat guy off
the bridge) and personalities that were psychopathic, Machiavellian or
tended to view life as meaningless. Utilitarians, this suggests, may add
to the sum of human happiness, but they are not very happy people
themselves.”
